Dattatreya and his 24 Gurus

King Yadu considered himself blessed after getting the vision of the supremely stunning Avadhoot Dattatreya and politely asked – “Your body, speech, and emotions are dripping with great intensity. Please give me the introduction of the Sadguru through whom you have received the knowledge that leads to this perfect state.

Avdhoot said – “Rajan. Sadhguru does not refer to a particular person but to a person’s virtuous attitude. Thoughtful people take lessons from ordinary things and events and apply them in their lives. Hence their conscience increases. This wisdom is the root cause of accomplishments.

Irrational people are not able to take any benefit even after getting a guru like Brahma. No one else in this world does anyone else’s benefit, salvation can be done only by the effort of one’s own soul.

I have many gurus, from whom I have acquired knowledge and wisdom, I consider all of them as my guru. But there are 24 gurus in them, these are –

Prithvi (Earth) – It patiently tolerates cold, heat, rain, and does not get angry even after people discarding excreta and indecent acts like a stroke. It is constantly in its orbit and dignity, I have considered the earth rotating at a constant speed as my guru.

Vayu (air) – Do not sit still (inactive), remain in constant motion, console the afflicted, carry the smell but remain detached from yourself. I found these qualities in Pawan, learned from them, and considered him as a guru.

Akash (Gagan) – In spite of being infinite and vast, I have considered the sky as a guru, the one who is filled with many universes in his lap, despite being opulent, the sky, who is not proud of his stature.

Jal (Water) – To make everything pure, to be always simple and fluid, to transform the heat into coolness, to give life to trees, to plants, to go from house to house for self-giving despite being the son of the ocean –  Because of so many exemplary greatness, I considered water as my guru.

Yama – Yama is my teacher, engaged in the necessary work of controlling growth, keeping the balance stable, removing the useless, freeing from the bondage of attachment, and giving rest to the tired ones in his lap.

Agni – The one who is constantly illumined, Keeps its heat alive for life, Keeps its flames upwards even when under pressure, Stays away from the collection even after receiving a lot, Makes the one who touches it like its form, Staying close I found the fire to impress people as well, that’s why I chose it as a guru.

Moon – I found the charitable moon, who keeps donating moonlight to the earth by begging from the sun even though he did not have light, to be a commendable public servant. Seeing how useful the best quality of the patient is, I made him my guru, seeing how useful is the best quality of a patient moon, do not sit down in despair even after all the arts have been weakened in adversity and then keep doing the courage to move forward again and again.

Surya – Continuing to do one’s assigned work at the appointed time with unwavering spirit, to be self-illuminated, and to illuminate others also, the qualities of regularity, continuity, brilliance, and brilliance made Surya my guru.

Pigeon – Seeing the grain lying in the net lying under the tree, the greedy pigeon did not go elsewhere lazily and was tempted without thinking in a hurry and lost its life in the trap. Seeing this, I came to know that the dove who gives this valuable education is also my guru.

Python – Due to the limbs being stuck in winter and the road being blocked due to rain, the hungry python was working after eating soil and was patiently enduring the bad day. His patience made him my mentor.

Samudra (Sagar) – Despite the continuous supply of infinite water by rivers, one who does not move beyond his limits, does not flinch even though he is the lord of the treasures of gems, keeps on donating sweet water to the clouds even though he himself is saline. The ocean is also my teacher.

Moth – When the moth, which is moving forward without caring for its life for the attainment of the goal, started burning on the flame of the lamp, its unwavering devotion to its goal, for the ideal, impressed me a lot. When I considered the burning moth as my guru, his soul said that without giving importance to this mortal life, one should always be ready to sacrifice for the sake of one’s ideal and goal.

Bee – The bee that collects the sweet nectar of flowers and dedicates them to others taught me that man should not be selfish but be benevolent.

Bumblebee – Enthusiastic in the raga, Bhora was sitting on a lotus flower without thinking of his life and death. When the elephant ate that flower at night, Bhonra also died. How does a creature engross in attachment and attachment cost his life? I took this education from my Guru Bhore.

Elephant – The lustful elephant was trapped in the trap by the elusive elephants tied in bondage and then suffered lifelong suffering. Seeing this, I understood the ill-effects of lust and considered that sensible creature as my guru.

Deer (Antelope) – When the deer attached to the ears were caught by the hunters and the gluttonous fish of the tongue were tormented in the fisherman’s net, then thought that how much harm is done to the creature in the momentary attraction of senses, it is wise to stay away from it. In this way, this creature also became my guru.

Pingala prostitute – Pingala prostitute had many clients till she was young. But they all left together as soon as she got old. Disease and poverty surrounded her. Seeing the condemnation in the world and the misfortune in the hereafter, I thought that if the time is missed, only regret remains, so they should do good deeds in time so that they do not have to repent. Pingala, who gave the message of caution to others with her remorse, also adorned my guru’s post.

Kak (Crow) – By not trusting anyone and adopting the policy of cunning, the crow remained at a loss, he got the disdain of everyone and had to be satisfied by eating abusive. Seeing this, the policy of cunning and selfishness would have been harmful in the end. The crow who teaches this is also my guru.

Innocent child – I have learned from my little boy Guru, that how soft, soma, and beautiful a creature looks, without attachment, malice, worry, lust, greed, anger, how happy and calm it remains.

Woman – A woman wearing bangles was grinding paddy, the bangles used to rattle among themselves. She wanted that the guest who came home should not know about it, so she took off the rest of the bangles and left only one, then their sound also stopped. Seeing this, I thought that due to many desires, conflicts arise in the mind. But if only one goal is fixed, then all the agitations will be pacified. The woman from whom I got this inspiration is also my guru.

Blacksmith – The blacksmith was making various types of tools by heating broken pieces of iron in his furnace with hammer blows. Seeing him, he understood that even a person who seems useless and hard can become useful if he prepares himself to suffer heat and injury.

Sarpa (Snake) – It hurts others and gets hurt the most in return, it is my teacher who teaches that it is not right for anyone to be defiant, tyrannical, aggressive and angry.

Spider – The spider was weaving its web by extracting juice from its stomach and whenever it wanted to swallow it back in the stomach. Seeing this, I felt that every person builds his world according to his feeling, his thinking and if he wants, it is possible for him to put the old in his stomach and create a new environment.

Beetle worm – Beetle worm caught a cricket beetle and impressed by its murmur made it like himself. Seeing this, I thought that through concentration and perseverance man can also be successful in rejuvenating himself physically and mentally. Thus Beetle worm also became my guru.

After listening to the accounts of 24 Gurus, Dattatreya said to the king – The purpose of becoming a guru is to get the light that leads on the path of progress in life. And this work is not possible without our discretionary intelligence. Therefore the first Guru is Vivek. Only then do all others become the basis for gaining knowledge.

Danku Ratnakar and Devrishi Narada

It was a long time ago that the fear of a very dreaded dacoit was prevalent in some states. The name of that dacoit was Ratnakar. He, along with his companions, robbed the passers-by passing through the forest and even killed them if they protested. Once, Devrishi Narad was also going from the same forest while chanting God. When they reached the dense ravines, they saw some people running in the opposite direction.

When Devrishi asked him the reason for doing this, everyone told him about Ratnakar’s presence on the way. But in spite of this, the Devrishi started moving forward.

“Aren’t you scared?”, the people running asked seeing him doing this.

“No, I do not believe that there is anyone else here besides me, and fear is always caused by someone else, not myself. Saying so, the sage stepped forward.

After going some distance, Danku Ratnakar along with his companions came before him.

Ratnakar – Narad, I am Ratnakar, Danku Ratnakar.

Narada smiled and said – I am Narada, Devrishi Narada, your guest and I am fearless. are you fearless?

Ratnakar – What do you mean?

Narad – I have no fear of life, no failure, no tomorrow, no stigma, and there is no fear that you know? Now tell me are you fearless?

Ratnakar – Yes, I am fearless, neither I am afraid of life, nor of failure, nor of tomorrow nor of stigma.

Narad – Then why do you live here hiding in these dense forests? Are you afraid of the king?

Ratnakar – No!

Narad – Are you afraid of the people?

Ratnakar – No!

Narad – Are you afraid of sin?

Ratnakar – No!

Narad – Then why do you stay here hiding?

Hearing this, Ratnakar was terrified and stared at Devrishi alone.

Narad – I will answer. You sin and are afraid of sin.

Ratnakar laughed and said – Narada, you cannot confuse me with these things. I am neither afraid of sin, nor of virtue, nor of gods, nor of demons, nor of the king, nor of the kingdom, nor of punishment nor of law. I have betrayed the state, I have betrayed the society, so I live here in these ravines. This is my vengeance.

Narad – What was the sin of which you are afraid?

Ratnakar – Don’t provoke me so much that I kill you, Narada. So much so that I have already learned that the definition of sin and virtue is always determined by the strong and imposed on the weak. I have seen the expansion of empires, by murder, by force, by deceit, I have seen the expansion of commerce, by deceit, immorality, iniquity, was that not a sin? I was a soldier, protected even the wicked and ruthless merchants… Wasn’t that a sin? Why did I kill the soldiers who treated the women of the losers in the battle with animalism, I have become a sinner? I became the culprit of the king, the army, and the general. Was that a sin?

Narad – The sin of others cannot justify his own sin Ratnakar.

Ratnakar shouted – I am not a sinner.

Narada – Who will decide? Those who are with you on this journey or not? Is your wife, your son, with you in this sin?

Ratnakar – Yes, why will they not be together, whatever I do, I do it only for their happiness.

Narada – So those who are with you make them decisive. Go, ask your wife, your son, your father, your near relatives, what you are doing is not a sin, and are they all with you in this sin? Are you a participant in this sin?

Ratnakar – Okay, I will go back now.

And instructing his companions to keep Narada tied, Ratnakar goes straight to his wife and asks her – “What I am doing is a sin? Are you my partner in this sin? ,

The wife says, “No lord, I have vowed to accompany you in your happiness and sorrow, not to be a participant in your sin. ,

Ratnakar gets shocked hearing this. Then he repeats the same question to his blind father, “Father, what I am doing, is it a sin? Are you my partner in this sin? ,

Father says, “No son, this is your income, how can I share it. ,

On hearing this, it is as if lightning strikes Ratnakar. He becomes very sad and walks slowly back to the deity Narada.

Narad- Your companions have left me alone, Ratnakar.

Ratnakar, falling at the feet of Devrishi – Sorry Devrishi Pardon, now I am also alone.

Narad – No Ratnakar, you are your friend and you are your enemy, you also created your old world. You will also create your new world. So get up and write your future with your effort. Ram-Ram, may your path be in the morning.

Friends, after this incident, the life of dacoit Ratnakar changed completely, he renounced the path of sin and adopted the path of virtue and later this dacoit became the author of Ram-Katha, Maharishi Valmiki. This story, taken from the Upanishads, tells that man is the master of infinite possibilities, where on one hand he can become a king by his effort and on the other hand he can also rank with his laziness. He can destroy himself by his indiscretion, so can his nirvana by his conscience. That is, we are all superpowers in our own right, But most of us are not able to use even a small part of our infinite powers in our lifetime. Why not leave mediocrity like Danku Ratnakar and move towards excellence!

Ram Charan and the tortoise, Kewat, Sudama

This is the story of a turtle.

It is heard that the poor man heard the glory of the feet of the Lord and wanted to go to those feet. So started asking everyone – where should I go, where should I go? But no one had any idea where to go to find God’s feet?

He kept on searching, searching – finally one day he found a devotee – who asked that little one to go to the infinite Kshir Sagar – and also suggested the way there. As he was a tortoise so started walking at the pace of a tortoise. On the go, on the go…. He even reached the seashore – then started swimming, and kept moving forward.

And finally reached the place where Lord Shesh was on the bed – Shesh ji was pleased to make him sleep on his body and Lakshmi Maiya, being a form of devotion, was pressing the feet of the Lord.

The tortoise wanted to touch the feet of the Lord – but Shesh ji and Lakshmi ji did not allow him to do so – the poor little impure creature who remained

Poor – all his penance – remained incomplete.

The Lord just kept smiling – and seeing all this, Narada kept thinking that why did the Lord allow this to happen to His devotee?

Then the time passed, In one birth the turtle became a boatman- Lord appeared in the form of Shri Ram, Lakshmi Ji appeared in the form of Sita and Shesh ji appeared in the form of Lakhan. …………….. Lord came and asked him to cross the river – but the boatman said………

if you let me wash your feet then only I will take you across the river because if our boat turns into a woman like that stone turned into Ahilya, then it will snatch the bread of the family of the poor like us. ….. And then in front of Shesh Ji and Lakshmi Ji, the boatman got the pleasure of washing the lotus feet of the Lord.

And time passed…

The tortoise has now become Sudama – Lord became Kanha, Lakshmi Ji became Maya, and Shesh Ji took the form of Bal Dau. Days passed by – and one day the little tortoise who became Sudama – came to meet the Lord. Dusty feet, thorns, blood flowing, mud soaked ………….. and what happened?

The Lord washed his Sudama’s feet with his own hands, Rukmini brought water, and Baldau also stood there showering tears of love with his eyes seeing the love of the childhood friends. ,

Hari Anant, Hari Katha Ananta……..Hari Bol….

Ram, Hanuman and Banana Leaf

When Shri Ram Chandra Ji reached Ayodhya after defeating Ravana’s army and taking Sita ji – a big banquet was organized there in the joy of their return. All the people of the monkey army were also invited – and all the poor people remained apes, didn’t they? So Sugreev ji explained them very well – Look – here we are the guests and the people of the Lord’s village are our hosts. All of you should be very nice here – We should not consider the people of the monkey race to be devoid of manners, keep this in mind.

The monkeys were also ready to respect their caste, but a monkey came forward and with folded hands started saying to Shri Sugriva, “Lord – we will try to keep our conduct good, but we remain monkeys. Somewhere there can be a mistake – so we should have a good image in front of the people of Ayodhya – for this I pray that you make someone our leader, who not only guides us, but also arranges our seating etc. smoothly. Let us tell you that if the apes start fighting among themselves for the same thing, then our image will be tarnished.

Now Hanuman was considered to be the most knowledgeable of the apes, and Lord Rama’s favorite, so this responsibility also fell on him.

On the day of the banquet, Shri Hanuman kept arranging for everyone’s seating, etc., and after making everyone sit properly, reached near Shri Ram, then Shri Ram told him with great love that you also sit with me and eat food. Now Hanuman has come to the fore. His plan was not to sit equal to the Lord – he was going to take food as prasad only after his Lord had eaten. There was neither a place for them to sit nor a banana leaf at banquets.

So Hanuman was in a poor mood – neither the command of the Lord should be clapped, nor should he be eaten with him. Lord knows the mind of the devotee, doesn’t he? So they came to know that there is no banana leaf, no place for my Hanuman. By his grace, he has increased the seating area of Hanuman as he thinks (who has created such a big world – he can create a little more space). But the Lord did not make another banana leaf.

He said, “O my dearest dearest brother or son, dear Hanuman. Just like this, eat with me on my own plate (banana leaf). Because the devotee and the Lord are one – so if someone worships Hanuman too, he will attain me (this is the word of aquad).”

On this Shri Hanuman Ji said – “O Lord – you tell me how much you are equal to me, I will never be you, I will never be – I have no desire to be. (This is dualism) – I am your servant forever and ever – I was and will remain at your feet. So I can’t even eat from your plate. ,

Then Shri Ram with the middle finger of his right hand (middle finger of the right hand) drew a line in the middle of the banana leaf – so that the leaf remained one and became two.

In one part the Lord ate food – and in the other half offered it to Hanuman. So, as a symbol of both the unity and duality of the soul and the Supreme Soul, the banana leaves are still one, but two – and being two is one.
